What is a faceup?

Ball-joint dolls are unique works of art. When ordered from the maker, they are blank acrylic, completely without paint work. Although the buyer may ask the company to include a professional paint job at extra cost, many doll owners prefer to customize the dolls themselves. This process is known as the "Faceup." Aeda's faceup is entirely custom, and was done with a variety of art materials such as watercolor pencil, acrylic, and pastel powder, secured with special fixative.

Dolls and all photos thereof are property of Odile, 2006 and on.
